Abstract: This study examines the evolution of the narrative topos of anagnorisis in two 19th century authors: Alphonse de Lamartine and Eugène Sue. The reference to magnetism appears as a way to renew this narrative sequence, by linking it to a current scientific phenomenon. The virtuous radiation becomes a power of attraction and suggestion that pushes those who undergo it to act differently.
