. Le magnétisme dans la littérature (1780-1914)
  • Author: Picot (Pauline)
  • Abstract: The current practice of theatre is unconsciously permeated by an imaginary inherited from animal magnetism as theorised and introduced in France by Franz-Anton Mesmer in 1778. From this observation, this study returns to the first confluence of the scientific and theatrical fields – the 19th century – to examine the way in which the magnetic imaginary, which popularizes the unprecedented model of a conductive body, is embodied in the actor’s figure.
