Abstract: While reported speech appears in this corpus of life stories on deportation as a means of authenticating linguistic discourse, it can also be analysed as an enunciative phenomenon highlighting one of the paradoxes of testimony writing. This article shows that the various language forms of this "self-referenced" speech vary according to the time and place of the speech.
