Abstract: With the progressive Spanish occupation of Italian territories from the fifteenth century onwards, the Castilian language became not only a code in Italy but also a tool for managing power between the Italian and Spanish nations. Throughout the course of the sixteenth century, Spanish became the “language of empire”, a language which had a great political force and was indispensable in relationships between the two societies.
