Abstract: Our contribution describes the way the formulary component of volgarizzamenti from French functions in a Tuscan corpus of the fourteenth century. The summary of idiomatic or fixed expressions and formal stereotypes present in the source text helps us attain a better knowledge of the practice of medieval translation. It also allows us to verify the role of formulae in the constitution of genres and discursive translations common to various linguistic domains.
