Abstract: In the Méditations and Nouvelles Méditations poétiques, Lamartine mixes political values and poetic values: the verse sometimes expresses his changeable ideological commitments, letting the reader perceive the evolution of his ideas step by step. The literary value of poetry is transformed there, integrating this commitment within the bucolic landscapes of lyricism in the form of polemical and committed brackets. Thanks to the narrow intricacy of the political and poetic speeches, the singular voice of Lamartine, the swan of “true poetry”, can be heard, fully in tune with Byron.
