Abstract:Violence in Beckett is linked to the constitution of the human personality (filiation, sexuality). Around 1955, it undergoes a profound change in its treatment, as does the author’s style. This coincidence reveals that violence and writing reflect each other ; since Beckett ascribes to literary creation the function of rehearsing, through scenes of violence, the problematic acquisition of a personality via the gaze of others : literature palliates the failure to accede to the order of wisdom.
