Abstract: Starting from a personal reflection on writing, the article gives an overview of the temporalities of the sentence in the light of two concepts drawn from the work of Jean-Philippe Toussaint: urgency and patience. It provides a range of examples in which patience is involved: first, by focusing on the question of incompleteness; second, by looking at the superposition of temporalities in rewriting; and third, by reflecting on the adventurous dimension of the sentence.
