Abstract: Recounting his ascent up the Marne, on foot, from its confluence with the Seine to its source on the Langres’ plateau, Jean-Paul Kauffmann presents it – explicitly although not seriously – as an "anabasis". The meaning, for his imagination, of this upstream movement is indeed essential; he seems to us noticeable even in the choice of his "companionships", his esteem for those he calls "conjurers" and the place given to our most archaic sense.
