Abstract: Questions of reproduction, repetition, imitation, and representation profoundly shaped the work of Raymond Roussel. Instead of seeing this obsession with processes of duplication (of the world, of objects, of words, etc.) as a character trait peculiar to this writer, we can analyze it as an aspect of the productive and reproductive practices of the industrialized West transposed to the mechanisms of writing.
