Abstract: Is there still an ideal of bicycle touring? Has the digital era forever doomed a certain kind of wandering, forbidden a specific freedom of movement? Going back over his personal history as a long-haul bicycle tourer, Claude Marthaler discusses the conditions that make bicycle traveling an experience in which the self and the world construct each other, and takes stock of the transformations that the advent of the internet has brought about.
