Abstract: From 1870 to 1880, Huysmans published a range of texts in journals and newspapers, in the nineteenth-century tradition of the “chose vue.” Such a description, a kind of tableau vivant, captures the mores of the time and constitutes an original form of naturalism. Between journalism and literature, it goes beyond literary genres with an aesthetic that is both modern and rooted in the Balzacian and Baudelairian tradition.
