Abstract: The article identifies the meanings of the movement of exploration and conquest of the Alpine massif, from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. In this movement of arrest, participate two novelties: the narrative of travel in mountain and the photographic image. These two novelties are tied up in Aimé Civiale. What is at stake in this knotting? Which meanings does it build of the relation of the man to the landscape at the scientific, artistic and spiritual level?
