Abstract: The work of the Verticales editors—Yves, the talkative author who delights in his work as an editor, Jeanne “the hyper-reader”—varies profoundly from one author to another. In all cases, however, it is a matter of respecting the voice and style of each author, of listening to him or her talk about his or her new book before suggesting, without interventionism but also without equivocation, ways to help him or her solve the problems posed by his or her text, which may be more or less complete at the manuscript stage.
