Abstract: Michel Mitrani’s 1979 attempt to transpose or “transécrire” a Gracq narrative with Un Balcon en Forêt was a semi-failure that nevertheless enables us to wonder what is not able to substitute for verbal creation. Mitrani’s film is further enriched by an echo with other films evoking an illusory haven in the very heart of war.
