Abstract: Benjamin Fondane, Jewish poet born in 1898 in Romania, and died in Auschwitz in 1944, crosses four languages: Yiddish, Romanian, French, Spanish. Remarkable is less his mastery of several languages than his experience in them. Romanian author, he crosses the Romanian language with Yiddish and French, French author, he crosses the French language with Roumanian and Spanish. It is not the countries where he lives, but the roads he takes that matters, as a Jewish companion of Ulysses.
