Abstract: Valéry was very young when he wrote his first tale, after the reading of Villiers de l’Isle-Adam, Huysmans, Mallarmé and Poe. The evolution of Valéry’s poetics of tale can be apprehended through a comparative study with Régnier’s, Gourmont’s, Louÿs’ or Charles van Lerberghe’s contemporary works.
