Abstract: This essay charts Beckett’s struggle to translate Textes pour rien into English. The translation history of these texts is marked by hesitations and difficulties. Having begun the translation of the first Text in 1958, Beckett would over the next eight years struggle to complete the task. The discussion maps the genetic history of the translation, and comments on the various stages in the process.
