Abstract: French narratives inspired by the history of Spain, whether distant or recent, and included in the prestigious Revue de Paris or Revue des Deux Mondes, are enriched by the aesthetic and thematic concerns of Romanticism, a historical awareness, and the vogue for national characteristics. The underlying myth of Spanish exoticism is interwoven into several narrative modes which are principally realist with regard to their ideological discourse.
