Abstract: Provençal scholars in the 1730s (Mazaugues, Caumont, La Bastie) were very busy. They looked for medieval manuscripts, they conceived projects, they accumulated data but they did not succeed in editing the texts nor in synthetizing their results. The results of their efforts were partly gathered by La Curne de Sainte-Palaye and above all by philologists at the beginning of the 19th century.
