Abstract: An historian of Aix-en-Provence, Pitton distrusts Nostredame, father and son. In his Sentiments sur les historiens de Provence (1682) he attacks César, accusing him of gullibility and fabrication. Unable to ascertain whether Jaufre Rudel’s vida is legendary, he still retells it, but with a touch of humour, suggesting he doubted its authenticity.
