Abstract: Scholars like Claude Fauchet, Blaise de Vigenère and Etienne Pasquier support the hypothesis that the French language has its roots in Occitan when we know that Rabelais had already shown some interest for meridional languages. They imagine this language as being an expressive and plausible ancestral idiom.
