Abstract: The role that Mgr Rémond played during the Second World War gave him an aura which distinguished him from his peers. Conversely, Mgr du Bois de la Villarabel was part of a small number of dignitaries who had to leave their seat following the Liberation. Two completely different paths, it seems, but is the distinction really so neat ? Resituating these two figures in the Provencal context allows us to appreciate a wide range of attitudes.
