Abstract: The agreements of May 1957, October 1960, and March 1963 were realised in advantageous conditions for the Tunisian state because France financed almost the entirety of the programme of reparation of colonial lands. We consider whether the ancient colonial power thus liquidated its rural patrimony in Tunisia, and to what extent the conclusion of the agreements stemmed from a consideration of French interests.
