Abstract: This article is principally based on analysis of files in the Morocco-Tétouan archives at the Alliance israélite universelle, as well as the Bulletin de l’Alliance israélite universelle (BAIU), published from 1863 to 1913. It resituates the Tétouan community in the vast movement of emancipation and protection affecting the Maghreb as much as the Middle East (Ottoman Empire).
