Abstract: “One swallow does not make a summer” : it is with this leitmotif that the newspapers of Israel responded to the speech made by Bourguiba in Jericho on 3 March 1965, and reconsidered his peace offensive. In Arabic countries, following a welcome essentially made up of Palestinian refugees, passions were unleashed against the man who had dared to transgress taboos and defy conformist Arabic thought.
