Abstract: This article proposes to show how the Institutions de physique sets forward a new conception of science that resists basing our knowledge of nature on uncertain metaphysical principles and confines the epistemic field to experimentable phenomena. This enables us to question the allegories present in the Bible, to point out the physical inconsistencies or absurdities that are scattered throughout the text, and above all to craft a skeptical attitude toward the sacred text.
