Abstract: This article outlines the evolution of biblical criticism by women philosophers from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries and reveals that important topics in the libertine and clandestine tradition were imagined and inspired by women philosophers. The author of Examens de la Bible, Émilie Du Châtelet is not an isolated case; she belongs to a tradition that has not yet been sufficiently appreciated by scholars.
