Abstract: Despite his awareness of the role of two radical movements, the Enlightenment and French materialism, in history, Hegel overlooked the two manifestos prior to Le Système de la nature: Le Traité des trois imposteurs and De tribus impostoribus. Thanks to a book by Karl Rosenkranz, we have an evaluation of these two treatises from a Hegelian perspective. This article analyzes his book Der Zweifel am Glauben. Kritik der Schriften (1830) and compares it to Friedrich Engels’ Bruno Bauer und das Urchristentum (1882).
