Abstract:La Lady Macbeth du district de Mtsensk by Nikolai Leskov depicts the first female serial killer in Russian literature and one of the first heroines of this literature to violate sexual taboos. She ushered in the era of emancipated and dangerous women of end-of-century modernity.
