Abstract: This attempt at a global assessment aims to resituate the writers considered here in the community of letters, analyses their participation in the war effort, their doubts or refusals, and shows, genre by genre and through the analysis of literary prizes, to what extent the Great War, from which few escaped, marked literature in its entirety until 1939.
