Abstract: This article focuses on the break concept stereotypically applied in the religious 16th century from the centrality attributed to Luther’s action. A clear break occurred a few years after his death. At the treaty of Passau (2 August 1552), the freedom of religious choice is granted. Disunity of faith is placed under the protection of the political authorities. As of Maurice of Saxony’s action, a logic of the unpredictable generates the fixation of faith differentiation.
