Abstract: Throughout his literary work, Michel Houellebecq has made various incursions into the field of fine art. The photographs, paintings and the videos of La Carte et le territoire are abstract entities that that take shape in the textual fabric of the novel. The spaces they occupy in the narrative will be defined with respect to their formal properties and their contribution within the literary sphere.
