Abstract: This article seeks to illuminate the contributions made by the study of literary testimony to the historical and philological study of textual transmission in the late Middle Ages. A particular focus is the literary function and functioning of accounts made by authors concerning the corruption of their texts by scribes, or the material theft of their manuscripts (notably by Machaut, Froissart, Villon, Gerson, and Deschamps).
