Abstract: This article presents the current state of research concerning the history of medieval reading. Organised around a typology of sources, it takes into account the full range of disciplines which contribute to the history of reading practices. By doing so, it shows the complementary nature of historical and literary study when this particular topic is concerned, and constitutes a call to transcend the traditional barriers between research areas.
