Abstract: Joint readings of the Meliador by Jean Froissart and the Livre de chevalerie by Geoffroy de Charny reveal structural and ideological similarities which derive from the chivalric ethic of the late Middle Ages. If the narrative fiction and the treaty converge around the definition of military excellence, the story borrows significant details from the code of the Order of the Star, a feature which invites us to connect the two texts, and establish a link between the history of France, and literature.
