Morts violentes et meurtres royaux dans l’histoire ancienne de la Grande-BretagneL’iconographie du manuscrit du Brut en prose, Londres, Lambeth Palace, 6 (ca 1480)
Abstract:London, Lambeth Palace, 6 is a 15th century manuscript and one of many witnesses of the Middle English Prose Brut. This trilingual codex tells how Brutus founded Great Britain after the fall of Troy and goes up to 1436. It was copied by an English scribe, contains passages in Latin, marginal instructions in French and was richly illuminated in Bruges c. 1480 by Edward IV’s Master and his assistants. Violent deaths play a significant part in the history of Great Britain and in this codex, their visual depiction highlights the social, political and religious instability of the kingdom.
