La tradition du Brut en moyen anglais à la fin du Moyen Âge

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: L’Historia regum Britannie et les « Bruts » en Europe. Tome II. Production, circulation et réception (xiie-xvie siècle)
  • Author: Mairey (Aude)
  • Abstract: The Bruts were among the most read texts in England at the end of the Middle Ages. Written in French at the end of the 13th century and then translated into Latin and English, these chronicles were long overlooked by modern historiography. Today, they are the subject of an extensive analysis that mostly focuses upon their circulation and reception. The aim of this paper is to foreground some of the major issues of these works in order to gain a more in-depth understanding of English society and culture at the time.
