Abstract: The arrival of a new generation of historians wanting to work on the contemporary French city has modified the perspectives of urban research. Reflecting on temporalities and describing urban phenomena in their administrative and political context, their work first took public policy as an interpretive structure for the urban development of the country: reconstruction, housing projects, and new cities. The accent is now on the social effects of generalized urbanization.
