Abstract: A specific branch of the history of techniques, the history of construction maintains complex relationships with the history of science; an analysis of these relationships allows us both to situate the history of construction and to open possible paths of research. While the history of construction is almost unknown in the history of science, some questions appear to be productive connections: statics, material resistance, the behavioral analysis of structures, and their modelling.
