Abstract: This introduction to an economic history of construction starts by positing the fact of building as an economic action based on three pillars: land as condition of production, raw materials as elements of production, and tools as means of production. What connections exist between the need to build and the building process? This study examines the transformations of the processes of construction work and the social relations that have been disrupted by them.
