Abstract: In Great Britain, there exists a deep and long-standing tradition in the history of construction that has ties to two worlds: amateurism and professional builders. However, university and professional teaching as well as institutional research are poorly developed in this field. Only the human and social sciences show promise in the field and the history of construction is only taught at doctorate level in the specific field of cultural heritage restoration.
