Abstract: The paper compares The Crying of Lot 49 and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as postmodern narratives of loss, thus challenging, perhaps radically, the value, legitimacy and relevance of interpretation, whilst expressing its nostalgia. The drugs act as revealing process, reductio ad absurdum of the hermeneutical principle, just another (bad) trip).
