Abstract: Froissart’s Chroniques are inspired by and adapt Jean Le Bel’s account. Yet this adaptation of the model rarely involves a questioning of its veracity. This is surprising in cases where the author could draw on his own experiences. The use he makes of this model in relation to the oral sources which he relies on next shows us that he evaluates the authority of testimonials which are written down and those which are not differently.
