Abstract: Studying the blazons of the bollocks in the Tiers livre (chap. XXVI and XXVIII) in light of the discipline of plants peculiar to physicians (“Res herbaria”), and of the bibliography on plants known to Rabelais, allows us to explain in part the details and overall structuring found in blazons by cryptic allusion to the orchids then known as “bollocks”: the lexical study of numerous epithets from blazons and the allusions to various plants show this in particular.
