Abstract: A distant relation of the Bibliothèque de Saint-Victor’s Ars honeste pettandi in societate, the Catalan Laus petandi, an 800-verse poem attributed to Ortuinus Gratius, was published in 1951 and 1970 in Barcelona. This article aims to study the Éloge du pet (Praise for the Fart), by charting the text’s publishing history, by examining the preface and notes, and by giving an overview of the poem’s content using short excerpts in the original language, with accompanying French translations.
