Abstract: In the edition of Poliziano’s Opera published by Gryphe in 1536, there is a revised index entry, “Panici terrores” (“Pan-like terrors”) which refers to this Italian humanist’s miscellaneous work no. xxviii, and which directly echoes the “Terreur Panice,” of which Rabelais provided the first example in French in Gargantua chapter XLIII. Everything suggests that this variant is the work of Rabelais himself, in putting the final touch to his editorial work on Poliziano.
