Abstract: This study reveals the links between the Balssa de Montirat family and the Guérins via the Lacombe Saint-Michel family, from whom the first name Eugénie was transmitted to the Guérins and to which Pierre-Alexandre Lacombe belonged, whose daughter married an uncle of Balzac’s. The family’s best-known member, the general Jean-Pierre Lacombe Saint-Michel, was the patron of Balzac’s father and a direct ancestor of the Nobel Prize winner Claude Simon, who based a character in Les Géorgiques on him, masked behind the initials L.S.M.
