Abstract: Although the young Giono was hardly a musician, Jean le Bleu, a fictionalized autobiography, forged a musical myth of his origins to give an account of the birth of the poet. The musical episodes reveal a truth that is not factual but poetic, pointing to a founding element of Gionian writing. The composers of choice are only chosen as models if they offer the performer the opportunity to play his own part and compose in turn. The music lesson is therefore a lesson in poetry.
