Abstract: Eighteenth-century satire was very diverse, just as the thought that surrounded it. While it was considered to be of an inferior moral and aesthetic status, it was also used as an antidote against corruption. These twelve contributions attempt to pin down the highly particular humor at the heart of satire, drawing on eighteenth-century thinkers.
